The idea behind Wor Lot
Making genuine friends in your 30s, 40s and beyond is harder than people admit. It's not that Durham isn't friendly, it’s that nights change, people cancel, and the thing you actually need (the same faces, the same place, over and over) isn't easy to find.
Most events don't solve it. You go, you have a good time, you swap numbers and mean every word you say about doing it again…and then somehow three months pass.
Wor Lot exists because of that gap.
How it started
Wor Lot was started in Durham in 2026. The first strand, Wor Lot Books, launched in April 2026 at Crush Wines.
What we do
Wor Lot runs small, membership-based creative groups across Durham. A book club, a choir, creative writing cohorts, craft. Each one is capped and built around the same group of people showing up regularly. That's not an accident. It's the whole point.
The groups stay small because that's what makes them work. Twenty or thirty people is the number where you start to recognise faces, where someone notices if you're not there, where it stops feeling like an event you attend and starts feeling like something that's yours.
Work with us
We work with independent practitioners (writers, musicians, makers, facilitators) who want to lead sessions for Wor Lot members. If you're based in or around Durham and think there might be a fit, we'd like to hear from you.
Stay in touch
If you're not ready to join a specific group yet, or just want to hear when new strands launch, add your details to the form and we’ll keep you updated.
